Coho Salmon Puzzle

Acrylic on plywood, 3’x7′

This coho salmon puzzle is one in a series of large-scale wildlife jigsaw puzzles created for various conservation and education organizations. The hands-on nature of the puzzle has proven fun and interactive for children. In my experience, children often feel a need to touch what they are viewing in order to further their learning experience. When allowed to do so, they are free to engage in play with the artwork. The concept behind the wildlife puzzle is that many pieces of an ecosystem are needed to support a whole and healthy species. When the pieces are placed together, the ecosystem can function as it needs to and can sustain itself into the future. This particular puzzle is installed as an interactive display at the Quatse Salmon Stewarship Centre in Port Hardy, BC.
